Dear counterparts,
We hope this email finds you well.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major challenge across the agricultural value chain, posing a threat to One Health and economies. AMR is a condition when disease-causing agents, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, are no longer responding to available antimicrobials, thus treatments become inefficient. These resistant microbes can spread between people, animals, and the environment, and can cause severe infections and sometimes death. Recognizing the increasing threat of AMR to food security, human health and welfare, the IAEA, through its Joint FAO/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture (the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre), undertakes research and development (R&D) and capacity building on AMR for Member States.
The Side Event Multi-disciplinary Approaches to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Agrifood Systems towards One Health for the 68th IAEA General Conference aims to:

To emphasize the importance of multi-disciplinary approaches and innovative ideas to combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) through the Joint Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture is inviting scientists under the age of 40 to submit statements on innovative ideas to combat AMR. Five statements will be selected out of which the selected candidates will be invited to prepare a recording that will be presented during an event on AMR at the 68th General Conference of the IAEA to be held at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria on 16-20 September 2024.
